Why do hummingbirds visit bird feeder for awhile then leave dont come back?

They can be picky little guys, make sure the bird feeder is really rinsed a lot before you fill it. Even a little soap residue ruins the syrup after a few days.

Another thing might be wasps or stinging insects that are sugar lovers. They are one of the few things a hummingbird is so afraid of that they will abandon a feeder. Another thing is sometimes the syrup gets too old and they don't like it much.

Third and last is that as different flowers, tree and shrubs bloom, the birds may abandon the feeders for nature. Eventually they do return when nature shuts them off and if food is provided. Good luck with your flying jewels. Why do hummingbirds visit bird feeder for awhile then leave dont come back?

Why do hummingbirds visit bird feeder for awhile then leave dont come back?
they just want the food
If you keep the hummingbird feeder filled with fresh nectar they will come back. Sometimes hummingbirds will perch on things to rest a minute, including feeders that have seeds. They don't eat the seeds, though, so they aren't interested in coming back to that kind of feeder.
The humming birds have very busy lives when the're not feeding. The male humming bird has to build a nest, and then he sings a special song about kathy lee, which attracts the female humming bird. then feathers fly, and beaks go where they shouldn't be. Later on, the male humming bird puts his beak lips together, and calls her back for another night of passion.
The first thing I can think of is the contents may be going stale. Try changing it. Or use a different mix. It could also be they are migrating. It depends where you are located.
I think they return
There are all kinds of different kinds of humming birds.Jus t to have them feed on it means they are in the area but the number of them depends on your area. they come in different colors depending on where you live.

I live on 10 acres near a wooded area and next to a mountain and they feed alot here not having too many houses right next to each other.

If you seen them in your area but only once in awhile then the population is low for them in that area.they are all most impossiable too see until they slow down right in front of you.

We have a feeder and its empty by the time winter rolls around

I bought a book on birds in north america and it gave me a map of what kind of and how big the population is in the area.Try used book store or library if you don't want to buy a new book .
Hummingbirds need lots of high energy feed. If a hummingbird finds your feeder empty - it is not likely to return, they can't afford to waste energy looking for a feeder -- if you want the hummingbirds to return - make sure your feeder never goes empty.

seed feeding birds will return after a find a feeder empty, but hummingbirds most likely will not return -they will look for another source.
Hummingbirds migrate, soooo, you'll see them hang out for a couple of weeks, then they are gone. They also visit other feeders and ';do the rounds'; Also, are you making sure you are changing the water and cleaning your feeder??
