How do I keep ants off the humming bird feeder?

Hi,

Keeping insects away from even the best hummingbird feeder may be difficult. Some feeders have built-in nectar guards that prevent insects from accessing the nectar by using a flexible membrane that only the hummingbirds are able to bypass. To deter ants, you may want to purchase a feeder with a built-in “ant cup”, which can be filled with water to prevent ants from reaching the feeding ports. Ant cups can be purchased separately.

there is a sticky substance you can buy at a plant place for the base of fruit trees, put some of that around your feeder pole. How do I keep ants off the humming bird feeder?
Ant moats. :)

Look on the top of your feeder where you hang it from. Most feeders have a concave area around the hanger. If your feeder has this, fill it with vegetable oil. That's what it is intended for.
