We have a MAJOR Sparrow problem at my bird feeder?

I think the sparow population around my house has at least doubled in the past few years! they ate 20lb of bird seed in less than 3 days!! and it's all mostly sparrows! at one point i counted at least 50 sparrows on or underneath the bird feeder eating the seed! we used to have so many different species of birds, but now all i mostly see r just sparrows! i mean i like the little guys, but i mean this is just ridiculus!!

i'm not quite sure how to get rid of them, i don't want to trap or kill any of them, i just want them to find another food source, like maybe is there a type of seed or bird food that doesn't attract them?? any advice would be great! We have a MAJOR Sparrow problem at my bird feeder?
Sparrow are opportunity feeders, and will eat just about anything. I cannot think of any bird food that they would not eat.

I also doubt that you would be able to trap all the sparrows in your area! They are usually the most prolific of birds in any given area.

You could try to attract additional types of birds by putting out special types of foods. I have seen finch food ( Mostly black Niger thistle seed), cardinal food, songbird food, and more. Check a farm supply store for a good selection.

Good luck!We have a MAJOR Sparrow problem at my bird feeder?
You can put up different types of feeders to attract different birds: hummingbird feeder, a suet feeder to attract woodpeckers, etc. and put up a thistle feeder to attract finches. Even if you still offer the same seeds on a platform feeder this will help to bring in doves and maybe some other bird species. But, if you are going to provide food for the birds..you cannot JUST feed the birds you want to..as long as you put out food, ANY and ALL birds will come and eat it. Sure you can try and deter some..but you will not eliminate all of the sparrows from feeding. Also, keep in mind if these are any sparrows other than House Sparrows they are protected by law and harming them in anyway (trapping them, etc.) would be illegal.
Move the bird feeder about 5 feet every other day away from the previous spot, then place it in a new spot. If you don't want to lose a bird feeder take it out for about a month then put it back in.
