I want to put up a hanging bird feeder on my kids play house. Which type would attrct the most birds?

We have just got a nice playhouse with a window and now we want to get a hanging bird feeder for outside the window so they can sit inside the house and watch the birds. What type of feeder and food would attract the most birds? I dont mind if squirrels steal the food so long as my kids can watch.I want to put up a hanging bird feeder on my kids play house. Any feeder will attract the birds and squirrels...it's the type of food that you wanna look into!! Thistle will attract lots of finches, which are small and gorgeous to watch, and then your basic 'bird seed' will attract finches, robins, cardinals, jays, squirrels, etc. Make sure you get a sturdy feeder with sturdy perches....a decent little feeder will run about $10 or so. It really depends on the area where you live. We usually put out feeders for hummingbirds. I would recommend putting the feeder somewhere, where bird poop wouldn't be a problem. Along with the good, comes the bad.
how far away will the kids be away from the bird house? you have to take in the fact of bird poop and squirrel waste..
