i use the formula of 4 parts water and one part sugar for my feeder. is this also right?I use sugar water for humming bird feeder. How long should i leave it in my feeder before changing it.?
If you have the feeder hanging in a tree or somewhere ants cant get at it changing once a wk is fine. I have 3 feeders hanging up and ive never had a problem with once a wkI use sugar water for humming bird feeder. How long should i leave it in my feeder before changing it.?
Sugar water is good but it does not have the ingredients that nectar does and it deprives the birds of the needed nutrients. You should get some hummingbird feed at the pet store to feed along with the sugar water.
Yes, that's about right. I would change the water at least once per week. No red food coloring is necessary. Clear sugar water is better for the birds, and hummers come to clear water just as quickly as to red or any other color.
It is fine but change it out at least every other day.
The reason why it is so important to change the sugar solution and clean the feeder is, there is a black mold that forms within the feeder. If the hummingbirds ingest the mold they will die, their throats swell cutting off air and not allowing the bird to swallow. If it doesn't die due to suffocation it will die of starvation. I am a wildlife rehabber in California, I have see the affects that the mold/fungus does to the little birds and I have to say it is the saddest thing I have ever seen. The worst part about it is there is nothing that can medically be done to make it better.
Clean your feeder every other day during hot weather and once a week in cooler weather. Never buy any pre-made serums from the pet store, they are all bad for the birds, they will supplement their diets naturally. You have a great mixture and sounds like you relay care. Have fun watching you little birds. :)
the ratio is all right
just change it every day so ants dont accumulate on it
