Has anyone had any success at using sugar and water in a humming bird feeder?

If so what is the right amount of sugar to use?Has anyone had any success at using sugar and water in a humming bird feeder?
Yes, I use it all the time.

The ratio is 3 parts water, 1 part sugar. But in the beginning you can use 4 parts water and 2 parts sugar, and add a drop of red or orange food coloring. The color attracts them, and then when they taste you ';strong'; nectar, they will return many times, even when you tone it back to the 3 to 1 ratio.

GOOD LUCK. Once they find it, you are on you way to a lot of hummingbird visitors.Has anyone had any success at using sugar and water in a humming bird feeder?
3 to 1 is right, but don't add coloring, it's not good for them. Instead take an artificial red flower and attach it to the bird feeder. It'll do the same trick. Red is only used to attract them, nothing else. And make sure you change the water frequently, so the syrup doesn't go bad. The birds can get sick from it or at least they'll remember the nasty taste and won't come back.

Good luck.
about one quarter cup to a halfcup sugar then add one or two cups water than add a little bit of red food coloring for apperance
Recipe for Making your own Hummingbird food:

4 parts water / 1 part sugar

Bring water to a boil and stir in sugar. Boil for 2-3 minutes. Let cool. Excess nectar / hummingbird food can be stored in a tightly covered jar in refrigerator for one week.

Do NOT substitute honey for sugar!!
4 parts water 1 part sugar boil in microwave for 3 min. and you don't need food coloring. Tie something red to it or buy a feeder that has color. Keep the feeders clean and fresh.
