Hi. I have seen a blue and white baby parakeet at my bird feeder outside off and on for the last 6 weeks and it's getting colder at night. (In Idaho) I didn't think I would see it again after we had a freeze warning 2 nights ago and then it rained yesterday but it was at the feeder 3 times today. I've tried a cage with my conure's food in it along with a tent and a towel over the cage and no sign of it going in. I even held food in my hand up to it and it looked at it but then flew away. I've heard to soak them down so they can't fly but it hangs out in a tree where if it was too wet to fly it could land in the yard next door where there is a pit bull and another big dog. :( I'm so worried now that it's in the low 40's at night and will be getting colder soon.
Thanks! How can I rescue a parakeet that's at my bird feeder?
I was going to suggest the soaking down idea until I read about the dogs next door. Maybe you could get your neighbor to cooperate with you and put the dogs away long enough to soak and catch the bird, that way it would be out of danger of the dogs. Or you could call a local vet and ask if anyone there has any suggestions. They are usually quite helpful, and may have an idea on how to catch it. I wish you the best of luck, maybe you could let us know how it goes? Poor little guy, he needs to be inside before winter! How can I rescue a parakeet that's at my bird feeder?
Hi...
i hope u still can see that parakeet...
parakeets are scared of getting cold...
i suggest u try catch it and keep it in ur cage... instead of letting it expose to the risk of getting caught by the big dogs (scary...)
u should put more shredded paper and a dry small towel inside the cage to keep it warm at night too.
let me know whether u managed to see it again?
Like some other suggested ask your neighbors to try to put their dog away. Or get a large net(really lage) ans stand still till it somes near.
Some people are sooooooooo........GRRRRRRRR!!! Why answer a question with ';shoot it in the face';? Stupid *ss.
PLEASE keep trying! You're doing all the right things, I think. You might call the humane society or animal control and ask them if there is someone from a bird rescue that could help you.
Maybe if you didn't put out any wild bird seed in the feeder, but put the empty cage out with plenty of seed inside......hopefully the parakeet would be the only one brave enough to go in when it got really hungry (since it would be used to a cage) Then fix the door with a string or something so you could pull the door closed on it? I would leave the tent and towel off, though.
I too live in Idaho and know how cold it is getting. That is really sad that a baby is out in the world alone. Like others suggested try taking away the wild bird seed and put the cage as close to the feeder with lots of seed in it. Hopefully the keet will go in there then you can shut the cage. Oh good luck and get it before the dogs do. Let us know how it goes.
The bird will DIE!
The Bird will ****!
Its the circle of life... XD
