Sparrows gourge at my feeder nonstop and I'd like to find a way - possibly by changing the feed - of minimizing or eliminating their attraction to the feeder. What is the best way to keep sparrows away from my bird feeder?
Sparrows are birds.
It's a bird feeder.
Hm.
I must be missing something here.

Black oil seeds will bring other birds but sparrows still will pig out. I use mesh type feeders-- mainly because sparrows seem to throw lots of seed out to get.....THAT one!-- anyway, using feeders that don't give them a trough effect will help. For sure don't use the ';wild bird mix';-- which is generally junk the starlings and grackles dearly love--
I've been told the ';hearts'; will discourage sparrows-- but I haven't tried it yet-- I just go thru lots of black oil seeds-- now, if you have a way to stop that squirrel.....
good luck
Hang a sign on it that says: No sparrows!
pellet gun
Don't put out any seed.
I'm with the 2nd guy...............
